How to decorate a safe nursery for your baby or child

Pregnancy always brings about a desire to redecorate your home before welcoming a new member to your family. What advice could we give to parents currently working on decorating a nursery room for their baby or child? How can we make a good and practical choice that satisfies the family as well as the child for years to come?

Comfortable, practical, functional, easy on the eye – what should come first? It is no small task to decorate a nursery in your apartment or house. When considering different furniture options for the nursery, parents should take into account that the items they choose should be modern and easy on the eye as well as safe, functional, comfortable and practical.

Safety first: rounded corners, slow-close drawers, wall straps

The most important thing is to make sure that everything surrounding the baby is safe. Meblik’s nursery room furniture has been designed and produced with this in mind because it is meant to keep your child safe. Meblik knows that babies crawl, climb, pull and jump to discover the world around them.

The 3 most important aspects for making furniture safe:

1. Furniture items in product lines designed for nursery rooms should have rounded corners.
2. All drawers, wardrobe doors and toy boxes should be fitted with high-quality slow-close drawer slides and hinges to keep children from getting their fingers caught between a drawer or a wardrobe door.
3. Wardrobes, drawers and book cases should have wall straps to safely attach them to the wall.

Ecological paint used on furniture items, walls and the floor should not cause allergies

It’s a good idea to get your children furniture that has been painted with non-toxic and ecological paint. This is the only way you can be sure that there are no chemical substances in the nursery that might be harmful for children or cause allergies. It is also a good idea to use safe paint for the interior of the nursery. If possible, opt for natural floor materials as these add warmth and cosiness. Meblik’s Pirate range for boys and Princess range for girls includes warm, natural woollen rugs that fit well with your nursery room design.

When choosing furniture, it is a good idea to look for items with special certificates to prove quality.

Choose functional and comfortable furniture! Drawer with a changing pad

Furniture should strike a balance between functionality and comfort. For example, Meblik’s drawer is spacious and practical and comes with an option to attach a changing table to it and to fit a soft changing pad into it. It’s the perfect height for parents to be able to use it. In a year’s time when you no longer need a changing table, you can remove it and continue to use the drawer to store the baby’s things. It’s a good idea to get your children furniture that has been painted with non-toxic and ecological paint.

Same furniture in different varieties for different ages

Meblik’s ranges of baby and children’s furniture includes various wardrobe options. There are one-, two- and three-door wardrobes and even a corner wardrobe. It is also possible to add extensions. As children grow bigger you can add in a bookcase, an adjustable desk and chairs from the same product range.

Customised and named toy boxes. For boys and girls

Add a toy box or a clothes rack in the nursery room with your child’s name engraved onto it to customise the room and give it a special touch. It makes for an excellent gift! Every Meblik furniture range is designed with a unique 3D engraving on the exterior of each piece of furniture. Meblik offers a variety of furniture items for both boy and girls. Ranges vary from cheerful and fun (Pirate, Happy Animals, Princess) to minimalist and timeless themes (Bianco Fiori/Mobile, Nordic).

Nursery rooms should be associated with joy and be filled with positive emotions!
